Leaders Focus On Their People

Genuine champions like JaVale McGee know that it’s the supporters (in his case fans) who give them a chance to shine. Leaders in business do the same.

Walt Bettinger, CEO of Charles Schwab, learned this when he failed his final exam because he didn’t know the name of the lady who cleaned the school building. Building a culture of customer service and continuous delivery in a company starts at the top and is reinforced by showing your people appreciation for their support and recognizing them for their work—even the little stuff.

Never be too busy, or too focused to make the “big play” of focusing on your people. JaVale didn’t save the ball for his team with his hustle, but his quick recognition of a fan is what made the news!
